Miracle on 86th Street

Bundle up this winter and stroll through the Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park from November 15, 2022 through January 9, 2023. The park features a large custom-built train, larger-than-life ornamental displays, an ice-skating rink, and holiday-themed events and all season long. The park is lit with more than 50,000 holiday lights and we're hosting special events all season long!

UCAN Light Up Urbandale - Friday, November 18, from 5:30-8:00 PM

Enjoy live music, food and drinks, vendors, and the big arrival of Santa! Santa will arrive at 6:30 PM and you and your family will be able to take pictures with him! No registration required. This event is free. For more information contact UCAN at 515-334-2684.

Cocoa with a Cop

Library Storytime/Cocoa with a Cop - Saturday, December 3, at 10:30 AM

Join us next to the park at Meeting Room A/B at the Library for a cozy cup of hot cocoa and a special family storytime event featuring winter-themed books, songs, a craft, and special guest reader Officer Holly Pickett! Stories are aimed at ages 2-7 but all ages are welcome for cocoa, craft, and conversation! Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Please pre-register here.

Candy Cane in the Grass

Flashlight Candy Cane Hunt - Saturday, December 3, from 6:00-7:00 PM

It has been rumored someone has left candy canes and candy on the grounds around Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park! Bring your bag and flashlight and come help us find them all! After collecting all the candy, enjoy hot cocoa from the patio. Parents must accompany children, please register child only. Dress according to the weather. This event will take place strictly outdoors. We encourage you to bring a canned food item, non-perishable food, or personal item for the Urbandale Food Pantry. This event is $2/per participant (ages 8 and under), you must pre-register here by November 26.


Santa and the Reindeer - Saturday, December 10, from 5:30-7:30 PM 

Join us at Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park and meet Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and the reindeer! This event is free and fun for the whole family! No registration required.

Winter Scavenger Hunt

Winter Scavenger Hunt - Saturday, December 17

Bring your family to Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park, 3520 86th St. (south of the Urbandale Library). Santa has left some clues outside the Library, Police Station, and Charles Gabus Tree Park. Collect all the clues to Santa's stash of toys and bring them back to the elves.  Each family team that completes the challenge will receive prizes.   All teams that complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing for the Grand Prize. Min 5 families/Max 20 families. Please register one adult family member only, and list other members upon prompt at registration. Registration required by December 8.
