Sergeant Shane Taylor graduated in 2000 with a degree in criminal justice from DMACC. He started his law enforcement career as a reserve police officer for West Des Moines PD in 2000. In 2002, he was hired by the Urbandale Police Department.
During his career, he has served on the SWAT / Suburban Emergency Response Team, bike patrol, and as a field training officer. He currently serves as a precision driving instructor.
In 2011, Sergeant Taylor became a K9 handler with his K9 partner, Sabre. He is also currently the Vice President for the Heart of America Police Dog Association. In 2012, Sergeant Taylor and K9 Sabre received the 2012 Narcotic Case of the Year from the Heart of America Police Dog Association. Together, they have seized over 3.5 million dollars worth of narcotics and US currency since 2011.
In August 2014, Sergeant Taylor was promoted to his current rank of Sergeant and is assigned to the Patrol Division with K9 Sabre.
