Water service was restored to all affected residents early this morning. You should flush your lines by running all cold water taps in your home for for five minutes. If you have a single-lever faucet, set it to run cold water. Begin with the lowest faucet in your home and then open the other faucets one at a time, moving from your lowest floor to your highest. After five minutes, turn off your faucets in reverse order, from highest to lowest. You should also flush your refrigerator's water lines. Do not drink the water without first boiling it. Boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. The water may be used for bathing, laundry, and other similar purposes.

The Urbandale Water Utility anticipates that water service will be restored tomorrow morning, Thursday, September 14. This is an estimated time, and more information will be shared here as it becomes available. When water pressure is restored do not drink the water without first boiling it. Boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing, laundry, and other similar purposes.

Following the repair and repressurization of the system, samples will be collected to ensure water safety. Boiling water is a precautionary measure until bacterial sample results are available. We will share information here when the results are in and the advisory is lifted. We anticipate this process to take 24 to 48 hours after the system pressure is fully restored.

• Thank you for your understanding and patience during this water main break. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and are actively working to resolve the issue. Our dedicated team (which includes the contractor and the Urbandale Water Utility) is on-site working diligently. 
• About 3,250 homes are affected in the area north of Douglas between 142nd Street and 184th Street. We recommend boiling your water as a precautionary measure. This ensures that any potential contaminants are eliminated.
• We realize this may be an unusual situation for some, and we appreciate your cooperation. We're evaluating the site and working towards a resolution. We expect the outage to last at least throughout today. As soon as we have a timeline, we'll share it with you.
• Regarding concerns about water usage, any water already in your lines would have been transmitted before the break occurred. Boiling your water is simply an added safety measure.
• We have water available for residents from 6:30 AM to 10 PM at Fire Station 43 if needed, until the watermain is repaired. The Fire Station is located at 15100 Meredith Drive.
• The water main break occurred yesterday (Tuesday, Sept. 12). Throughout the night, our team has been on-site, working to both fix the issue and evaluate its extent. Initially, the immediate water needs of residents were not affected, and we believed that the problem would be resolved by morning. 
• The Fire Department has plans for fires when the water supply is interrupted. We’ve put those plans into place and been in contact with our mutual aid partners to respond with additional water should a fire happen. The fire station in this area at 15100 Meredith remains staffed and ready to respond. In addition, this station will serve as a water distribution center should impacted residents need bottled water.
