View 1 Douglas Ave Urbanization Beautifucation Modernization

Project Description:

This project will urbanize Douglas Avenue from 100th Street to North Walnut Creek by installing curb and gutter, storm sewer, and replacing left turn lanes. This project also includes pavement preservation, with patching in both directions and a mill and overlay for the westbound lanes. A 5' sidewalk will be installed on the south side of the road, and a 5' sidewalk and 10' separate bike lane on the north side of the road, in keeping with the Complete Streets Masterplan.

The Douglas Urbanization project has been awarded to Reilly Construction Company.

Access and Work Zones:

Douglas Avenue will have reduced lanes in stages. Please follow posted signs and flaggers for routing through construction.

Maps will be posted to this webpage with additional information. The schedule is subject to change based on weather, conditions in the field, and contractor coordination. Check back to this page for project updates. As always, please use caution in the construction zone and obey all traffic control, for your safety and the safety of others. We appreciate your patience, and thank you for your cooperation.

Project Status Update, 6/21/2022:

Douglas Avenue continues to be reduced to a single lane of travel in each direction. The outside westbound lane and inside eastbound lane are open. The contractor is working on seeding the median. The contractor is also working on grading, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and restoration work on the south side of Douglas Avenue. The bike path on the north side of Douglas Avenue has been removed. The sidewalks have been replaced for a large portion of the corridor but remain closed until the remaining sidewalk and bike path are constructed and ramp connections are completed. The traffic signal at Mary Lynn Drive is being installed.

All intersections are open.

Please check back here for updates on closures as work progresses.

Phase 2 commenced on March 7th. The contractor will return to Phase 1 work once Phase 2 is completed.
