Douglas Urbanization
Project Status Update, 09/23/2023:
The widening and trail construction on Douglas Avenue was completed in 2023 by Reilly Construction.
The plantings and art installations are nearly complete by Alpha Landscapes. The median sculptures and light towers have been installed and lighting is operational. The streetlights were de-energized to allow the artwork to be safely installed; MidAmerican has partially restored the streetlights and is working on completing the rest of the lights. The Contractor is working on replacing some plantings and continuing maintenance to establish the grasses and plantings. Some lane closures may be necessary as the plantings and art installations are completed.
Project Description:
This project will urbanize Douglas Avenue from 100th Street to North Walnut Creek by installing curb and gutter, storm sewer, and replacing left turn lanes. This project also includes pavement preservation, with patching in both directions and a mill and overlay for the westbound lanes. A 5' sidewalk will be installed on the south side of the road, and a 5' sidewalk and 10' separate bike lane on the north side of the road, in keeping with the Complete Streets Masterplan.
The Douglas Urbanization project has been awarded to Reilly Construction Company.
The Douglas Plantings, Landscaping, and Beautification project has been award to Alpha Landscapes.
Access and Work Zones:
Douglas Avenue will have reduced lanes in stages. Please follow posted signs and flaggers for routing through construction.
Maps will be posted to this webpage with additional information. The schedule is subject to change based on weather, conditions in the field, and contractor coordination. Check back to this page for project updates. As always, please use caution in the construction zone and obey all traffic control, for your safety and the safety of others. We appreciate your patience, and thank you for your cooperation.
