Douglas Urbanization

Project Description:

This project will urbanize Douglas Avenue from 100th Street to North Walnut Creek by installing curb and gutter, storm sewer, and replacing left turn lanes. This project also includes pavement preservation, with patching in both directions and a mill and overlay for the westbound lanes. A 5' sidewalk will be installed on the south side of the road, and a 5' sidewalk and 10' separate bike lane on the north side of the road, in keeping with the Complete Streets Masterplan.

The Douglas Urbanization project has been awarded to Reilly Construction Company.

Access and Work Zones:

Douglas Avenue will have reduced lanes in stages. Please follow posted signs and flaggers for routing through construction.

Maps will be posted to this webpage with additional information. The schedule is subject to change based on weather, conditions in the field, and contractor coordination. Check back to this page for project updates. As always, please use caution in the construction zone and obey all traffic control, for your safety and the safety of others. We appreciate your patience, and thank you for your cooperation.

Project Status Update, 12/22/2021:

Douglas Avenue is fully open for the Winter.  The contractor has filled in the roadside ditch on the north side. Storm sewer boring below the Douglas Avenue roadway is complete. Construction of the storm sewer intakes on the north and south sides of Douglas Avenue is ongoing. The bike path on the north side of Douglas Avenue has been replaced for a large portion of the corridor but remains closed until the remaining sidewalk is constructed. There may be periods of shorter lane closures as work continues.

All side roads are now open.

Message boards will be posted prior to changes in road closures. Please check back here for updates on closures as work progresses.

Phase 1 is nearing completion and will be completed in early Spring. Phase 2 is scheduled to begin once the weather allows and Phase 1 has been completed in the Spring.
