The Bike Patrol Unit is a community policing resource with an emphasis on community special events and monitoring the many bike trails and city parks.
The department currently has 12 state certified bike officers. Our bike officers are sworn officers that receive 40 hours of specialized training to become certified to operate a bicycle in a police environment. After initial training, bike officers must complete 12 hours of recertification training annually.
Bike officers assist at events such as elementary bike to school events, the annual summer bike camp, the Mayor’s Annual Bike Ride, 4th of July parade, Variety Children’s Charity event, Lions Park events, the Marsh’s company Relentless event, National Night Out and Run for the Badge.
Another service offered by the bike officers is licensing bicycles at the various community outreach events.
