Animal Control Services

Polk County provides animal control services to the entire City of Urbandale, including Urbandale residents located in Dallas County. Animal Control Officers respond to calls for service that include dogs and cats at large, wildlife issues, excessively barking dogs, and health and welfare of domestic animal checks. Animal Control Officers are on duty 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Report Animals

It is unlawful for any owner to allow dogs, cats or any other animals to run at large in the City of Urbandale. To report an animal at large, please contact Westcom Dispatch at 515-222-3321 and they will dispatch an animal control officer.

Animals Picked Up

If your pet was picked up, please contact Furry Friends Refuge at 515-371-5586. Urbandale partners with Furry Friends Refuge to house and care for animals picked up by animal control officers.

Pet Licensing

Urbandale requires any dog or cat over the age of six months to be licensed using the PetData website. Licenses need to be renewed online every year starting on January 1. You can renew during the renewal period from January 1 to April 30 without a late fee. After May 1, a $25 late fee is applied to each license. New pets can receive a license any time without a penalty, if applied for within 30 days of adoption. Click here for 2023 Pet Licensing online or by mail.
