A building permit is required to install or construct any shed or accessory building in the City of Urbandale. No accessory building shall be constructed upon a lot until the principal building has actually commenced, and no accessory building shall be used unless the principal building is also being used. Setbacks are applied in consideration of the total square footage of the structure and the height and are limited by the existence of any easements and building setbacks as identified by the Final Plat for the property.

Our new cloud based permit Permit Portal provides you direct access to our office where you can apply for permits from your home or office or anywhere using a mobile device.

We will be able to receive your permit application at any time even when our office is not open.

You will be able to interact with us thru the portal to follow the progress of your permit from the permit submittal all the way thru to final inspection.
