Virtual Classes

Minecraft Modding

Minecraft Modding Quests 1 & 2 (Ages 8-11) - $138

The class starts from the basics however it covers those pretty fast. For students who are new to coding, we recommend taking Scratch Ninja 1 & 2 first before taking this class. Let the fun begin! We start from the very basics of coding concepts in this fun-filled class. Students solve puzzles by coding an agent in the Minecraft game to move, take actions, and react to the environment. They are also given the opportunity to build open-ended puzzles on their own. We will cover core coding concepts including sequence, conditional, loop, and more. All the puzzles and the projects are designed by our curriculum experts exclusively for Create & Learn. Registration Deadline: May 29

Minecraft Character

Beginner Roblox Game Coding 1 & 2 (ages 8 - 13)

In this first part we introduce the basics of Roblox coding through building fun games! Most students have not interacted with complex coding environments such as Roblox Studio before, so we will ensure they are setup for success by teaching foundational skills. This includes how to use workspace and how to configure properties of objects such as color and texture to implement in games. We will start learning important coding concepts such as if/then, loop, and variable in the context of Roblox coding, as well as how to have game elements respond to interactions from players such as clicks, movements, and more! Registration Deadline: June 19

LED Lights

Lights and Beats with Micro: Bit 1 & 2 (ages 7 - 9) - $138

Learn how to control electronic components like LED lights, speakers, and sensors, while building fun games and interactive experiments. Review foundational coding concepts such as loops and conditional statements, and learn more about variables. Build more fun games, while exploring advanced Micro:Bit features such as radio and buttons. Find out how to have two Micro:Bits message each other. Plus learn how to code functions, and even master some cool math and security concepts. Registration Deadline: July 3

Girl using science and technology skills in camp

Smart Devices: Arduino for Kids 1 & 2 (ages 9 - 14) - $138

In this class, we start with the basics of electronics. Students will learn how to create circuits, use resistors, and get introduced to Ohm's law, while building a series of cool projects and experiments. We will also code Arduino to start building smart devices that can sense their environment and respond accordingly. In the second part of this class, students build more sophisticated circuits for smart devices, code breakers, and games using Arduino. Learn more advanced electronic concepts such as digital vs. analog and control servos and sensors. Each class is full of excitement and brand new topics that most students rarely have access to. Students will also sharpen their coding skills and even tap into a bit of text-based coding to get ready for more advanced coding classes. Registration Deadline: July 3

Lego Robotics

Coding with Roblox Studio in Lua 1, 2 & 3 (ages 11 - 17) - $246

We introduce the basics of Roblox coding while building fun games in this first part. Most students will probably not have interacted with complex coding environments such as Roblox Studio before, which has two big aspects to it: building and scripting. We will learn workspace, objects, and how to configure properties of objects such as color and texture. We will also start learning Lua, the text-based scripting language used in Roblox. This is often the first text-based coding for many kids. Students will learn how to code with Lua, and apply conditional, loops, and variable concepts. Registration Deadline: July 10

 Coding

Scratch Ninja 1 & 2 (ages 7 - 10) - $138

This class uses Scratch, a platform developed by MIT, to teach fundamental coding concepts. We start from the very basics, so no prior coding experience is needed. Students will learn core coding concepts such as sequence, loop, and conditional. We will also use a wide range of Scratch specific capabilities including motion, sensing, control, and more. Your child will have a lot of fun as we build a new project in every session ranging from animation, games, to storytelling. Students not only learn coding but also start creating from day one! In Part 2 of our Scratch course program, your student will be challenged to be creative and solve tough (but fun!) problems while learning how to create a cool interactive game with a ball, conquering a wizard tag game, building animations with moving and talking characters (also called Sprites) based on their interests, and even navigating and customizing a jungle adventure! Students will build their critical thinking skills and learn core coding concepts such as loops, conditional, events, cloning, sensing, and variables, through exciting new projects in every session. Registration Deadline: July 17

Scratch Ninja 3 & 4 (ages 7 - 10) - $138

Part 3 of this Scratch coding course covers the most advanced programming concepts that Scratch has to offer such as list/array, defining your own blocks (functions), and complex interactions between different game elements via messaging and cloning. We continue the cadence of the one fun project per session, even though projects become more complex. Class time focuses on learning new coding concepts as well as how to construct steps to build more complex projects. In order to complete each project, students will typically need to spend 1-2 hours outside of class to finish all the details. Part 4 is the most advanced Scratch coding class Part for kids. The focus is on making connections across all of their previous learning, while layering in additional challenges in coding, problem solving, and creativity. We will be building a variety of fun arcade-game inspired projects where students can add their own twists based on their personal interests. Students are expected to complete the project after each class, so we can focus class time on the most challenging part of the game building. We are sure you will be amazed at what your child can do with Scratch coding! Registration Deadline: July 31
