The Urbandale Fire Department hosts an annual "Kid's Academy" for youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13 years old. During this 3 day academy participants learn the history of the Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Through this they will come to understand the important roles that the FireFighter/EMT plays in serving today's community.
Topics that are covered include: fire prevention, first aid, fire fighting and rescue, daily station duties, and requirements to become a Firefighter/EMT. The last day of the academy will include several "hands on" activities utilizing a variety of equipment the Urbandale Fire Department uses.
Requirements to participate:
- Be between 8 and 13 years old.
- Live and/or go to school in Urbandale.
Cost: $25.00 (includes a Fire Academy T-shirt and lunch with the Firefighters on the last day)
