Primary and Regular City Elections to be Held

A city primary election will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. All voters of the City of Urbandale in both Dallas and Polk Counties shall vote for no more than three candidates. The polls will be open from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM. A listing of polling places for both Dallas and Polk County residents can be found on the Polk County Auditor Website.

As part of the election process, a primary election is held before a regular city election when the number of candidates who file nomination papers is more than twice the number of seats to be filled for an office. In Urbandale, seven candidates have filed nomination papers for three open councilmember positions.

No candidates are elected at the city primary election. Instead, candidates who receive the most votes are nominated to appear on the regular city election ballot. The six highest vote-getting candidates will be nominated to appear on the regular city election ballot. Unofficial primary election live results will be available shortly after 8:00 PM on October 8.

A regular city election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 to elect three Councilmembers to the Urbandale City Council.
