The Urbandale City Council approved a Development Agreement with Deere & Company this evening. The approval of the Agreement is a major step forward in the company’s process to construct a new building for the principal offices of John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG).
Deere plans to construct an approximately 134,000 square foot, two-story office building at 9505 Northpark Drive in Urbandale. The company-owned facility is anticipated to be complete in 2019, with the jobs of more than 600 Deere employees, contingent workers, and interns moving to the new facility.
For nearly twenty years, Deere has leased space in Urbandale for the ISG operations. “ISG has been an important Urbandale business for many years, providing excellent jobs and support for community initiatives,” said Urbandale Mayor Bob Andeweg. “The City Council and I appreciate the confidence that John Deere has placed in Urbandale and we are pleased to support this major investment by one of the City’s highly-valued corporate citizens.”
The proposed site for the project on Northpark Drive is just northeast of the new interchange at 100th Street that will open in 2018 and is in the City of Urbandale’s newly-branded Urban Loop development area. “The City has worked for many years to prepare infrastructure for business and employment growth,” said Urbandale City Manager A.J. Johnson. “It is very gratifying to see Deere make a long-term commitment to Urbandale as we continue to strengthen our community and the region as a destination for Information Technology businesses.”
Both the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) and City have taken actions to support this investment by Deere & Company. Last month, the IEDA Board approved a High Quality Jobs Program award associated with the project. The Development Agreement approved by the City Council will provide to Deere a Tax Increment Finance property tax rebate estimated at $4.1 million, or approximately 77% of total property taxes paid over ten years. The City’s financial support leverages a total investment of over $32 million by Deere and continues development momentum in the Urban Loop.
